Betabeta Kuzzoko Avenue

Attractions

Legend has it that this alley connecting Kobo and Enokizu was once the site of a yōkai creature called betabeta kuzzoko [sticky sole]. The yōkai, which comes from the Ariake Sea and looks like the sole of a shoe, would latch onto people's feet as they passed through the alley, so much so that frightened children would run on their tiptoes through the alley. Nowadays, cute images of the creature are hidden here and there along the streets, making people feel at ease as they walk by. It is fun to walk around looking for them.
