This small trench is the remnant of a canal from the Edo period (17th century) when Enokizu was part of the Kurume clan, and Koho was part of the Yanagawa clan, the domain boundary. This is the only place where it is clearly visible today, but the canal spread throughout various locations at the time. At its widest part, it is said to have been about 3.6 meters wide. This canal also functioned as a waterway to carry goods from the Hanamunegawa River to warehouses in various locations. Together with the stone boundary markers ,this is a place where you can really visualize the boundaries of the clan.
